DC Studios announced in the month of October that Suicide Squad director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran would be taking over the studio, serving as co-chairmen and chief executive officers. On Twitter, Gunn announced that he is working on a new Superman film and intends to cast a different actor in the lead role. Gunn said that the recasting was necessary since the script he’s working on will center on “an earlier period of Superman’s existence.” (But it’s not an origin narrative, he insisted.)
